SunSet to Rwy 23 clear to land Patrol January 9th Observer Ret. Navy Commander Clancy Rich & Observer Bob Simpson Today Monday November 7th, Sundown Patrol Observer Bob Simpson flew Cessna N5218U, Bob practiced taxi, takeoff, climbs, turns, power off glides and than landing in Punta Gorda. I think it is great for our observers to lean pilots duties and for our pilots fly as observers. Bob did a great job flying! Instructor Gary Brown.
August 14, 2010 Brita Rubin took full advantage of a new Sundowner procedure that allows our observers to fly our aircraft with an instructor. Brita wanted instruction on how to land the aircraft from observer front seat, if the pilot was incapacitated. On our flight to Punta Gorda, she learned how to put the emergency communication frequency in the radio and transmit for help. After a few turns left and right, we went to landings. I thought she would would be happy with a few but she wanted more. She made seven takeoffs and two landings with very little help. Great job Brita! Here are photos that I picked: Gary Brown Ready for takeoff Final Maneuvers on center line and on speed Gary and Brita after Landing =========================================================================================================== Sundowner Patrol Members, I am Gary Brown a new instructor for the Sundowners. To introduce myself to our members and to encourage increased flying hours on our aircraft, I am offering our observers a FREE hour of instructor time. It’s the pilot’s choice. Our observers could take an introductory flight lesson and fly from the front left seat. If they wish they could bring a friend or a new observer candidate. If the observer/student wishes to fly over their home for pictures show their friend a portion of our patrol route, it’s the observer’s choice. Our rules require a person scheduling an aircraft be a student pilot or a licensed pilot. If you are an observer the instructor will schedule the aircraft. I will provide an hour of free flight instruction. You will be responsible for the aircraft rental cost. To keep costs down, a flight could be limited to less than an hour. A 45 minute flight would have an aircraft rental cost of $71.25 based on our current rate of $99.00 hr. This is a limited time offer to support the increased flying needed by Sundowner Patrol.
October 25, 2010; I had the pleasure of flying with new member Robert Johnson and his wife Kathy today. The Johnson's would like to meet Sundowner's and share pleasure flying. You can find their contact information on schedule master. Please welcome the Johnson's to the Sundowner's.
